What is 'Bot Catcher'?
'Bot Catcher' is a Neural Net based
Internet Search Engine focusing on
British sites.
'Bot Catcher' uses The-Arena (Daemonlinks Core) Technology to combine both a high speed
Structured Directory Search and a thorough
Web Crawl. We use custom developed neural network based Spider bots, to read web pages and transfer meta-information into our
Categorised Web Directory. The directory is made up of
68,873 Categories, clustered in a structured hierarchy, and currently contains
287,011 detailed sites listings.
Our
Application Service Provision (ASP) comprises of a large group of SOAP compliant Web Services which are used to create dynamic embedded content on our clients' sites.
We use a custom developed neural network (1/(1+e-sx)) based algorithms to structure and rank web site meta data, collected by twenty independent spider bots.
Some History:
The-Arena (originally the Arena BBS dial up service) started life in 1980 as a directory of bulletin board systems based in Britain. Our first service ran on an ICL Perq 1 (which we still have safely stored away) and was accessed only through dial up, using an acoustic coupler running at 300 baud (300 bits per second). In 1988 we borrowed some space on a Prime computer based in Oxfordshire and managed to get a JIP on the Janet network where we stayed until 1992 when we moved to CompuServe. In September 2000 because our directory had evolved in to a directory of URLs we decided it was time to buy a domain name and become ‘The-Arena’ …
One of the core philosophies of Our Founder (Mr Andrew H. Cooper) was (and remains) that ‘The-Arena should enhance his life and the lives of others by filtering out the crap’… For the past three decades our Search Engine has remained the 'crap filter of choice' for those suffering from information overload. We have evolved driven by the changing requirements of our discerning users.
Notes: Sites whether listed in the Directory or suggested by the Search Engine are selected because they are predominantly
British in nature. Both the Directory listings and Search results are ordered by popularity. By default each of the
68,873 categories display the
Top 50 most popular sites within it, and its
children.
Popularity is automatically calculated by frequency of use and a weighted node based neural algorithm. You can add Sites to the Search Engine and Directory using the
Site Entry Creator... To contact us use
